Why does my athlete need a USATF number?
Club members need a USATF membership for insurance purposes. Should you have more questions regarding membership, please email lakeeffecttrack@gmail.com.

Who will my athlete be competing against at meets?

Club members will attend several meets during the summer season; including, but not limited to other USATF clubs from the Niagara Region and other non-USATF associated clubs.

Why have the membership fees gone up?

Membership fees have increased due to fees associated with facility usage and supplies needed for practice days and meet preparation and fees; i.e. timing system.

When are track meet held?

Track and field meets are expected to be held each Thursday throughout the program.

Where are track meets held?

Track and field meets will take place at multiple/varying venues. At least one meet with be on the Frontier High School track on Bayview Road in Hamburg, New York. Other possible venues may include; Cheektowaga Central, Eden Central, or Williamsville South High School tracks.

What time do track meets start?

Track and Field meets usually start at 5:00 pm. However, coaches expect athletes to be at the venue at least 30 minutes prior to the start of the meet to take attendance, provide instructions and perform warm-ups as a team.

What does my athlete need to bring to each practice?

Athletes should wear comfortable clothing suitable for the changing Western New York weather and comfortable running sneakers (no spikes). Athletes should be prepared with; a water bottle and a light snack.

What does my athlete need to bring to each track and field meet?

Athletes should be prepared with; a water bottle, a snack, sunscreen, running sneakers and/or track spikes, their Lake Effect jersey, Lake Effect t-shirt and any additional clothing appropriate for the changing evening weather.

What is the age limit for membership?

Athletes ages 8 through graduating seniors are welcome to join Lake Effect Track and Field Club. However, any athlete 18 years or older will need to go through a Safe Sport training through USATF. For further information please email the coaches at lakeeffecttrack@gmail.com.

What will a Monday/Wednesday practice look like?

1. Athletes will meet on the track and sign.
2. Athletes will be informed of the day's routine while warming up as a group.
3. Athletes will be broken up into age, athletic level and event groups.
4. After athletes practice their specific event, they will cool down and stretch as a group.

What events will be practiced?

Coaches will practice the foundations of running, jumping and throwing with younger athletes, while veteran athletes will work with coaches on reinforcing event-work, strengthening and conditioning through drill-work in their specific event.

What events will be held at each meet?

Events will change depending on the location and club hosting the meet. For instance, one meet may run a 1500m/1600m race, while at another meet that race will not be run; instead a 3000m/3200m will be run.

Who are the coaches and are they certified?

The club's Head Coaching staff are volunteers and are either certified coaches with USATF and/or NYS; holding certifications in CPR/AED, SafeSport or other required certifications. Assistant coaches are volunteers as well and all have been USATF SafeSport certified.

Do I have to stay at the practice with my athlete?

No.  You do not have to stay during the practice.  However, please let the coaches know who will be picking up you child at the end of practice that evening.

How will coaches communicate with parents?

Coaches will communicate with parents about practice cancellations due to weather, meet changes or other practice or meet related matters via the Heja app, and email on file.
